You can call me rensu. I’ve been gaming for over 35 years, basically ever since I had a NES controller in my hand as a child. I can remember growing up as a gamer… you ALWAYS wanted to use the official controller. Nothing ruined a gaming night faster than being handed the janky Mad Catz controller. If you know, you know.

In 2019, I found myself spiraling into a very specific gamer crisis: learning modern Tetris… with a controller that clearly had other plans. Anyone that has ever tried to play Puyo Puyo Tetris and Tetris 99 at speed with the official Nintendo Switch Pro controller knows what a nightmare experience that can be… it turned what should’ve been clean line clears into chaotic misdrops and a controller throwing ragequit experience. (No, I didn’t actually do that… but I can’t deny the temptation!)

This set me on a journey to find a suitable controller to play Tetris with while clashing with my childhood mindset of third party controllers all being subpar junk. In fact, I hadn’t purchased a third party controller to use extensively since the days of PlayStation 3! I ended up discovering 8BitDo and purchased the SN30 Pro+ controller, which really made playing Tetris a much less infuriating experience.

Since then, I’ve bought and tested more controllers than I care to admit. This problem hobby eventually helped land me a gig as a Discord mod for a major controller brand. What started as a quest to stop misdropping tetriminos became a deep dive into chasing the perfect controller.

Long story short… I love playing around with controllers, testing their features, seeing how well I can perform in Tetris with them, and using them extensively to see how much I end up loving (or hating) them.
